Disodium nitrite, Na2NO2
Maxted describes this Disodium nitrite, Na2NO2, as a bright yellow precipitate, obtained by the interaction of a solution of sodium in liquid ammonia free from moisture and dry sodium nitrite. It is also formed by the electrolysis of a solution of sodium nitrite in dry liquid ammonia. When brought into contact with water, the compound reacts with explosive violence, evolving hydrogen.
